U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg (R- Tipton) filed a discharge petition on Tuesday to force a vote on the No More Excuses Energy Act, which encourages U.S. energy production and investment in alternative fuel sources.
The petition received 94 signatures on Tuesday, and Walberg said he expected more on Wednesday afternoon. House rules require at least 218 signatures, a simple majority, to bring a bill to the floor for voting.
Walberg said his constituents repeatedly express hope that the U.S. will achieve independence in its energy production.
They care about alternative fuel sources and environment-friendly production methods, he said, but most constituents he talks to also want to use nuclear energy and untapped oil sources within the U.S.
